Staff Sgt. William T. Greeson Jr. was born in Baltimore, Md., and spent his formative years there.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in December of 1998, and attended recruit training at MCRD
Parris Island, S.C. For his efforts as Platoon Guide, he was designated his platoon’s Honor Man, which
earned him a meritorious promotion to Private First Class.
After recruit training, PFC Greeson attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, N.C., during
which he served as both a squad leader and platoon’s scribe. For these efforts, he was awarded a
Certificate of Commendation. PFC Greeson was then sent to the Defense Information School (DINFOS) at
Fort George G. Meade, Md. where he was trained as a Combat Photographer.
In June of 1999, PFC Greeson’s was assigned as a base photographer and later photo chief for Headquarters
and Service Battalion, MCRD Parris Island. While at Parris Island, PFC Greeson fulfilled a variety of leadership
positions and was promoted to the ranks of lance corporal, corporal (meritoriously), and sergeant.
In October 2001, he transferred to the Joint Combat Camera Center (JCCC) in the Pentagon where he served as
still photography section supervisor. While attached to JCCC, he was decorated for providing time-critical
imagery from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He also received a
Joint Service Commendation Medal for developing the DoD’s first-ever classified still and video imagery database.
In 2002, he extended his training by attended the Digital Multimedia Course at DINFOS in which he was named
the distinguished honor graduate.
In June of 2003, Sgt. Greeson transferred to DINFOS to assume duties as a Basic Still Photography instructor.
While attached to DINFOS, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sgt. and was decorated for his accomplishments in
troop training and curriculum development. In April of 2007, Staff Sgt. Greeson attended and successfully completed
the Resident SNCO Career Course in Quantico, Va.
In July of 2007, he was selected to attend Syracuse University’s Military Photojournalism program (MPJ).
While attending Syracuse University, Staff Sgt. Greeson made the Dean’s List by maintaining a grade point average
of 3.5 grade point average. Upon completion of the Syracuse MPJ program, he will attach to 1st Marine Division,
Camp Pendleton, so that he can deploy as a Combat Camera Chief.
Staff Sgt. Greeson is happily married to his beautiful wife Patricia and have three children together; Sierra, Tre, and Q.
