Loras 'Lori' Freiburger enjoys a lunch at 'The Euclid' restuaurant in Clay, N.Y. The last time Lori was at this restaurant was more than 20 years ago with her ex-wife and daughters. She met with her friend Mimi who is the director of the Clay senior center.

Lori and her boyfriend Bobby wait to be called to the back before a surgical procedure. Lori is a transgender woman and as a result still has a prostate. Over the years, she's had probelms with her prostate swelling, causing her urine flow to be poor and urination to be frequent. Before she got her bottom surgery, the doctor offered to fix it but told her he couldn't do the gender correction surgery and fix the prostate issue, Lori chose the former. A few months ago, doctors approached Lori with a new technique that would fix the problem and Lori is the first transgender woman in history to undergo the procedure. On the 23d at 0900 she was wheeled to the operating room but a portion of the surgery was delayed because of an emergency at the hospital which called for the operating room she was in, doctors will complete the procedure in 3 weeks. Lori is 68, she began gender counseling and dressing as a female in 2016 and transitioned in 2017. She has no contact with her ex-wife or her 2 daughters but has strong ties to her siblings and mother.
Lori visited her friend Martha in the hospital the day she was discharged, drove her home and ensured she was able to get her perscrpitions from the pharmacy. Lori believes Martha may have a paranoia disorder as she believes her family is actively poisioning her and has stolen items from her home.
Lori is 68 years old. She considers herself bisexual and is open to the idea of polyamory. She has many suitors that come in and out of her life, as well as a few females she’s interested in. Lori used to frequent the Karaoke bar “the Hideaway” but hadn’t been there since April. When we arrived, a bunch of people came up and were excited to see her again, she wanted Bobby to come but he’d rather watch TV.
Lori is a transgender woman. She knew that she was a girl before the age of five and lived for more than 60 years hiding her feelings from everyone in her life. She has survived depression, stints in a psych ward, a suicide attempt that left her in a coma for three days, cancer and the rejection of her new identity by her ex-wife and daughters.
Lori drives to the local goodwill to buy some shirts for her boyfriend, Bobby. Bobby has a very fixed income and limited social life. Lori tries to get Bobby to come to the centers and encourages him to improve his quality of life.
