With 30 deaths in 2016, Syracuse was listed number four of the 18 towns or cities with the most murders in Upstate New York, according to FBI crime data. The numbers had since decreased to 21 in 2017 and 24 in 2018.
After his son was shot to death, Clifford Ryan, made it his mission to reduce and eventually end gun violence in the city. In 2015 he founded OG’s Against Violence, an organization that is committed to building a better community through violence interruption, seminars on street safety awareness, and so much more.
