I’ve spent the past 8 years specializing in underwater photography. Like many service members, I’ve had a number of near-death experiences resulting in PSTD. As a result of my I’ve been having extremely vivid dreams where I’m drowning. In these dreams I’m either having a replay of times I’ve almost drowned on the job, or I’m back in training- holding my breath while under extreme physical stress. Most nights I wake up gasping for air, so I’m getting tested for sleep apnea. My intention for this shot was to exploit the dichotomy between light and dark to showcase the feeling of an apneic episode as well as document the reality that goes along with it.
