A lifelong weather enthusiast realizes his dream.
Now 27, Carson Metcalf has been interested in the weather since he was three years old. He was called “The Weatherman” in elementary school because of his ardent love for the outdoors and the weather. Originally from Fulton and no stranger to the forecasting challenges of Central New York, Metcalf graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and a minor in mathematics. Soon after, He joined the local Spectrum News 1 cable news channel, which provides weather forecasts for stations in Ithaca, Buffalo, Albany and Syracuse, as well as smaller cities and towns. Recently, other broadcast markets—including New York City and Los Angeles—have recruited Metcalf to occasionally fill in and report on their regions.
